Anika Francis
Anika believes that we must be the change we are looking for in the world. If we want the world to be a better place, we can start by developing and empowering ourselves and what better way than through yoga.

Anika first started practicing yoga in 2003. After studying different styles of yoga, she discovered and fell in love with Ashtanga yoga. As her practice deepened, so too did her knowledge of yoga philosophy which gave her an even greater appreciation for her practice. She discovered that yoga is a system for personal cultivation. Anika learned that a good yoga practice reveals things about you. Yoga postures are like sign posts to the self. Her yoga practice has indeed led her to greater self-awareness. Anika’s desire is to share what she has learned through yoga about the strength that flexibility and openness yields; the ability of the mind and body to overcome limitations; the courage needed to face and overcome our fears; and the power in surrendering.

Anika completed her 200-hour training at Onlyoga and began teaching Ashtanga yoga in 2008. She was also certified in Egyptian Yoga and the YogaSkills method in 2007. Anika’s interest in meditation, pranayama and wellness influences her teaching. She consistently introduces new challenges while encouraging people to tune inward and delve deeper into their reactions, habits and mental states while on their mats.

April Billingsley

A yogi to the core, April practices the eight limbs of yoga and does her best to live by them.  Her classes incorporate flow, strength training, breathing techniques, energy balancing, and injury rehabilitation. She works towards having every one of her students end their practice feeling stronger, more centered, lighter on their feet, and clearer in their minds.

As a former athlete, April worked through scoliosis, knee, neck, arch and shoulder injuries. Today she is very thankful to yoga not only for its healing abilities, but for teaching her how to listen, appreciate, and take care of her mind and body.

Originally a Georgia native, she spent the last several years in Los Angeles where she completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified teacher training through Black Dog Yoga in 2009. Delighted to return to her home state, April is happy to have the opportunity to share her knowledge with the students at Active Sol.
  Namaste.

Flo Sheffield
In early 2005 I was drawn to yoga during a difficult time in my life. Through the physical practice of yoga, study of yogic philosophy and the discovery of Buddhism, I have been able to regain strength and clarity. I continue to study and practice the Eight Limbs of Yoga as well as the Noble Eightfold Path. I strongly believe in the benefit of a daily yoga and meditation practice in order to maintain peace and happiness in other aspects of life.

I am eternally grateful to my compassionate and kind teachers. My most influential teacher to date is Stephanie Keach, who I had the honor to complete my yoga certification under her guidance and who inspired me to find my own flow on this path. Stephanie pushed me beyond the limits I had placed upon myself. A truly amazing woman and teacher.  Also, Marsha McNeight, who continues to patiently guide me through the Ashtanga yoga practice. I have been lucky to study with Nicole Sopko, Shala Worlsey, Kino MacGregor, Tim Feldman, Gina Minyard, Dharma Mittra, and Manju Jois.

Each class I teach is heavily influenced by my own personal/daily practice of Flow yoga, Ashtanga and vipassana meditation. I continue to learn and practice in order to share with others. I hope to teach each class from a place of love and compassion, honoring the styles and methods I have studied. Thank you to all teachers past, present and future.

Kay Weathers
Kay believes that yoga is accessible to everyone, on and off the mat.  Years ago, she found her answer to tight, rigid muscles in a yoga class.  That first year of concentrated practice taught her that yoga looked far beyond stretches and poses – and left her craving a deeper understanding of the mind body connection.

Kay has experience with all styles of yoga and last year completed her 200-hour certification in Classical Hatha Yoga.  Kay teaches with a light heart and open mind – and is thrilled to have found Active Sol and its incredible community.

Maya Cariyappa
Yoga has been a part of life for Maya from a very young age. She grew up watching her dad in India practice yoga. Maya herself started practicing in 2004, a bit sporadically initially. But with the right inspiration from teachers and books she was drawn towards yoga, and it has become an important aspect of her life since.

In 2008 she completed her 200-hour teacher training at Sun-Moon Yoga Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It opened up a whole new world for her by opening the mind and spirit, and gave her a better understanding of not just the postures but also the philosophy and spirituality behind yoga, which she believes continues to unravel in many different ways every single day on and off the mat. Maya has been teaching Vinyasa style yoga since 2010 and thoroughly enjoys it.
Rosalyn Nix

Rosalyn experienced her first Hatha yoga class in 2004. Suffering from chronic back pain caused by a car accident, she soon discovered that yoga provided a healthy alternative method to healing.  Two years later she was introduced to Vinyasa yoga while participating in Baron Baptiste’s “40-Day Personal Revolution”, a program designed to challenge the mind and body to tap into unknown resources within oneself. During this 6-week program of daily yoga practice, meditation and healthy diet, Rosalyn developed the courage to stretch herself beyond imagination - physically, emotionally and spiritually.  From this experience, she realized that yoga would become a lifelong practice and she wanted to share this gift with everyone.

Building on a foundation rooted in Vinyasa yoga, Rosalyn completed her 200-hour teacher training in Ashtanga yoga and began teaching in 2007. In 2009 she discovered Yin Yoga and found it to be the perfect complement and balance to the more active yang style practices.  Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of long held passive poses, combined with an energetic flow influenced by Ashtanga and Vinyasa.

Rosalyn hopes to continue her practice as a student and teacher who can uplift and empower fellow students to embrace their essence and nourish the wonderful possibilities that yoga creates within all of us.

SAVA Giorgi Savaneli

A gymnast at heart, SAVA’s love for athletics began at age 5 when his aunt enrolled him in gymnastics school in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. At that time the Soviet Union was known for its brutal training conditions and SAVA dedicated himself to 6 hours of daily training for 10 years. He went on to win first prize in competitions in 1991 and 1993. Complementing his career in gymnastics, SAVA was also a competitive swimmer, diver and indoor biker.

SAVA is a certified Ashtanga Yoga instructor (RYT-200) and completed his teacher training at onlYoga in Atlanta, Georgia. He's always been searching for something more in life then just a conditioned physical existence. He feels in the core of his being, there is something within that never dies, something infinite, beautiful. Instead of only observing physical reality and creating assumptions to what life is about, he decided to look deeper inside for answers.

“Physical existence for me is a stage that I call rising.  We have a choice to fall or to rise. Throughout our lives we experience this constant fluctuation which is the normal cycle of our path to wisdom. Rising requires enormous effort and is full of setbacks, but if we let go of our limitations and maintain the discipline of our thoughts then we may become “it”.”

SAVA’s goal is to nurture his students through their own realizations and discoveries that Yoga can bring. “I want my positive energy to make a difference in the lives of others so that we can all create an unbroken chain of life filled with unconditional acts of kindness.”

Tina Naegle

Tina was drawn to yoga in 2009. Up until that time, she had been actively involved in performance cycling and weight lifting. Although Tina approached yoga with the intention of dealing with scoliosis and other soft tissue imbalances, she will readily tell you that it was her yoga practice that literally saved her life during the two challenging years that followed.  As a result, she believes in the unmistakable healing power of yoga.  She also believes that finding yoga at precisely that time in her life was no accident.

Tina completed her 200-hour certification in 2011 with Certified Anusara instructors Gina Minyard, Christina Sell, and Darren Rhodes.  As much as the grace-filled, life-affirming Tantric philosophy of Anusara resonates with her soul, the Anusara Principles of Alignment resonate with her body. She is deeply grateful for all the teachings that have been so generously shared by her teachers. She is also grateful for the gifts that yoga has brought to her life. Tina desires to be of service and to share those gifts and experiences with all of her students, past, present and future.
